    Start seven days before: walk the guest route (on the paths, not across new sod), clear leaves and trip hazards, trim edges, light the path and plan the parking. Thanksgiving always lands between November 22 and 28, right around the average first freeze in DFW, so expect a tan lawn and keep guests off wet grass. A bare, muddy patch near the door is the one lawn problem worth fixing before the holiday.

    Can You Lay Sod in November in North Texas?

    Yes, but November sod needs a different plan than a lawn installed during the growing season. Cooler weather means slower rooting, possible dormancy and more attention to winter conditions, and in Frisco the city’s winter watering rules (no sprinklers from November 1 through March 31) shape how you care for it. Green color should not be promised.
